Gerald Durrell (1925–1995) is a famous English zoologist and traveler, one of the cult figures of the 20th century. Darrell's books have long been a golden fund of world literature and are very popular among readers around the world. Having been obsessed with the idea of creating his own zoo since childhood, Darrell rented an estate on the island of Jersey, where he settled the first animals he brought from West Africa, but Darrell, his wife Jackie and secretary Sophie had to go to Argentina to find representatives of the South American fauna. “The Land of Rustle” describes their eight-month journey across the country, including many hours of driving along the coast in search of penguins, fur seals and the expedition’s main goal - elephant seals. Of course, along the way, Darrell and his companions met other animals that inhabit the Argentine pampa: from insects to parrots, from armadillos to penelopes. Some of them later also became residents of the Jersey Zoo. “The Menagerie Estate” is a collection of stories about the life of the nursery founded by Darrell. From the notes of the famous zoologist you will learn about the features of the zoo, the appearance of long-awaited offspring among its guests and, of course, about the touching and sometimes funny interaction of animals with the people who cared for them. The publication contains illustrations by the famous British artist Ralph Thompson. Saved in PDF A4 format publishing layout of the book.
