Elkan Nathan Adler, honorary secretary of the Jewish Society for the Propagation of Religious Knowledge, a collector of Hebrew manuscripts, spent several years traveling in Asia and Africa, during which he collected Hebrew manuscripts. As a result, he created one of their most extensive collections. This book consists of nineteen written testimonies from the Middle Ages, vividly representing the wandering Jew as a real character in the great drama of history. Stories of Jewish scholars, ambassadors, merchants, pilgrims, rich in vivid historical details and observations, introduce the reader to the life of Europe, the Middle East and North Africa in the Middle Ages.
