Elkan Nathan Adler, honorary secretary of the Jewish Society for the Propagation of Religious Knowledge, a collector of Hebrew manuscripts, spent several years traveling in Asia and Africa, during which he collected Hebrew manuscripts. As a result, he created one of their most extensive collections.
