He traveled along the Northern Sea Route along the coast of Eurasia and was the first to overcome the Northwest Passage off the coast of North America. A brilliant organizer, on the way to the South Pole he unmistakably chose dog sleds and met the tight deadlines until difficulties weakened the participants of the trip. A figure of historical proportions, whose experience is used by polar explorers to this day. However, at the pinnacle of life, having achieved his goals, the hero felt a lack of understanding and experienced loneliness. Tur Bumann-Larsen tries to understand the reasons for this. In the life of a polar explorer, love does not go well with the Arctic. The author managed to show the broken destinies and life dramas behind Amundsen’s choice.
