During his life, Isaac Bashevis Singer (1904–1991), winner of the 1978 Nobel Prize in Literature, wrote dozens of novels and short stories. The collection of short stories “Passion” was published in England in 1976; it was published in full for the first time in Russian. The writer creates bright, living images of his fellow tribesmen, scattered by fate all over the world, who survived the Holocaust and managed to maintain faith in goodness, in human nobility. His characters love and hate, study the Talmud and sin, philosophize and laugh at themselves.
