When Lermontov’s “Bela” appeared on the pages of “Notes of the Fatherland,” Belinsky wrote: “Reading Mr. Lermontov’s wonderful story can also be useful to many as an antidote to reading Marlinsky’s stories.” Belinsky’s words were extremely significant.
