The first case of investigator Anton Korsakov clearly smacks of some kind of devilry. The corpse of an old man with a face distorted in a grimace of horror was discovered in front of a tall antique mirror. And in the same mirror, Anton sees a charming woman in a long dress and a wide-brimmed hat, whom no one but him can see! The next day, the mysterious mirror disappears from the locked room.

And although the case is closed for lack of evidence of a crime, Anton decides that he is obliged to continue the investigation. He discovers that the threads of the story with the mysterious mirror stretch in the twenties of the last century to the fatal beauty Anna, who was involved in the death and misfortunes of many people, including his great-grandfather, lawyer Urusovsky. Anton is obliged to break the vicious circle and reveal the mystery - after all, the murders continue to this day. But is there a real killer, or are the dead victims of secret mystical forces?
