Жоржі Амаду зумів створити неповторний образ Терези, жінки, яка не лише бореться за своє місце в житті, але й втілює в собі дух боротьби та відваги. Проза автора настільки магічна, що читач немов поринає у світ бразильської культури, відчуваючи кожну деталь, кожен колорит. Хоча книга вперше друкується в повному обсязі, це не заважає їй бути зрозумілою та доступною для широкого кола читачів. Переклад, хоч і має деякі недоліки, все ж передає основну суть та красу оригіналу.
