Dumas's novel "The She-Wolves of Machecoul" is dedicated to the failed attempt to rebel against King Louis Philippe d'Orléans, which was raised in the Vendée in 1832 by the Duchess of Berry, daughter-in-law of King Charles X, in favor of her young son, the legal heir of the elder branch of the Bourbons, overthrown from the French throne by the July Revolution of 1830.
