Andrei Nikitovich Novikov (1888–1941) is an important and interesting figure in Russian literature of the 20th century, a talented satirist, one of the few friends of A. Platonov. His works, written entertainingly, with a large dose of the author's irony, touched on pressing issues of his time. And in this he was close to his great countryman A. Platonov, the best writers of the 1920s, who opposed officialdom and developed the best traditions of literature of the 19th century. He belonged to those artists in whose work the era determined not only the style and characters, but also shaped their worldview. Arrested in 1940 for anti-Soviet statements, executed in 1941, at the beginning of the war. This volume of selected stories and novels, the first publication after 80 years of oblivion, seeks not only to fill in the missing pages of Russian literature of our recent past, but also to introduce into literary circulation the original prose of A. Novikov

Книга "Ратні подвиги простаків" стала для мене справжнім відкриттям. Андрій Микитович Новіков - це автор, якого я раніше не знав, і його творчість вразила мене своєю глибиною і актуальністю. Його сатиричний стиль, пронизаний іронією, дозволяє не тільки насолоджуватися читанням, але й задуматися над важливими соціальними та політичними питаннями, які залишаються актуальними і сьогодні. Цей том вибраних повістей і романів демонструє не лише талант автора, але й його сміливість у висловленні думок, що були небезпечними в його час. Я вважаю, що ця книга повинна зайняти своє місце в бібліотеках усіх, хто цінує глибоку і змістовну літературу. Хоча переклад тексту іноді має недоліки, це не зменшує загального враження від творів Новікова. Я вдячний за можливість ознайомитися з його творчістю і сподіваюся, що ця книга знайде свого читача
