"The Last Man" is an apocalyptic novel by the English writer Mary Shelley. The book tells about a world in the distant future, which was destroyed by a mysterious disease that left behind only one survivor - Lionel Vernin, the so-called Last Man. Lionel travels through the desert world, facing the same loneliness and loss. He feels a heavy responsibility for preserving the heritage of humanity and tries to understand the reason for the death of the whole world. "The Last Man" is a reflection of the author's pessimistic thoughts about war, human nature and morality. Readers are immersed in a dark and mystical world where questions of loneliness, faith, interaction and the eternal human quest for survival are raised.
