Vitaly Bianki was born on February 11, 1894 in St. Petersburg, in the family of an ornithologist. Since childhood, Vitaly loved to go on real forest trips. Together with his father, whom he called his main forest teacher, the boy often visited the Zoological Museum. The father taught his son to write down all his observations, which he continued to do later, while studying natural sciences at Petrograd University. All his notes about animals and nature were transformed into fascinating stories and fairy tales.
