Paradise Lost is Milton's brilliant poem, thanks to which he became one of the most famous English poets of his time. The poem is based on the biblical story of the fall of man and his expulsion from Paradise. As Milton wrote in Book One, his goal was to “justify the ways of God to men.” Paradise Regained is a sequel to Paradise Lost. The poem tells about the temptation of Jesus Christ by Satan during his stay in the desert. “Paradise Lost” is presented in the translation by Nikolai Kholodkovsky, and “Paradise Regained” by Olga Chumina.
