The novel "Bayazet" is dedicated to one of the dramatic and heroic episodes of the Russian-Turkish war of 1877 - 1878 - the defense of the Bayazet fortress by a small Russian garrison, which went down in history under the name "Glorious Bayazet Seat". This was the first attempt of the talented author in the field of domestic historical fiction. As V. Pikul’s subsequent books showed, Russian history became the main theme of his work.
