The novel takes place on the French Riviera in the spring of 2002. The main character, Leonard Moreno, an embalmer by profession, has an extensive clientele among wealthy people who do not want to part with their loved ones after their death. One day, Blanche Andrieu, the wife of one of the local aristocrats, approaches him with a request to embalm her eight-year-old daughter, who died in an accident. Examining the corpse of little Elilu, Leonard discovers traces of numerous beatings and begins to suspect that the girl was killed...

"Майстерня смерті" - це не просто детектив, а глибока психологічна драма, яка торкається теми втрати, горя та таємниць, що ховаються за масками заможних людей. Автор майстерно створює атмосферу Французької Рів'єри, де за блискучими фасадами аристократії приховані темні секрети. Головний герой, Леонард Морено, вражає своєю людяністю та професіоналізмом, адже його робота бальзамувальника стає не лише ремеслом, а й способом зберегти пам'ять про тих, кого ми любимо. Сюжет розвивається динамічно, а інтрига тримає в напрузі до останньої сторінки. Хоча переклад тексту іноді має недоліки, це не заважає загальному враженню від книги. Рекомендую всім, хто цінує глибокі та емоційні історії, які змушують замислитися про сенс життя і смерті.
