The outstanding Georgian poet Vazha Pshavela (1861–1915) left a rich poetic heritage inextricably linked with the folk art of the highlanders. He spiritualizes natural phenomena, mountains, plants, and shows deep love for the animal world. Peasant life, the harsh ancient customs of the highlanders, the remnants of their pagan superstitions, unique views on friendship and love - form the content of his poems, the most significant and interesting of which are presented in the collection.
