In this book, the authors touch on one of the most mysterious places in Russian history - the Great Troubles of the 17th century. And they come to the conclusion that the Great Troubles were not at all the way the usual “school” version presents it, written by visiting historians commissioned by the House of Romanov in the 18th century. And the uprising led by Stepan Razin is not a “peasant” war (as is commonly believed), but a war with a powerful fragment of the former Russian-Horde empire - the Astrakhan kingdom. In addition, the authors touched upon the topic of Russian-Turkish ties and the use of Arabic in Rus'.

Книга "Велика смута. Кінець Імперії" відкриває нові горизонти в розумінні одного з найскладніших періодів російської історії. Автори сміливо ставлять під сумнів усталені стереотипи, які сформувалися завдяки "шкільній" версії подій, і пропонують читачеві альтернативний погляд на Велику Смуту та повстання під проводом Степана Разіна. Їхня аргументація про те, що це не була лише "селянська" війна, а боротьба з потужним уламком колишньої імперії, викликає справжній інтерес і спонукає до глибшого аналізу. Крім того, розгляд російсько-турецьких зв'язків та використання арабської мови на Русі додає нові штрихи до нашого розуміння культурних взаємодій того часу. Хоча переклад тексту іноді має недоліки, загальна якість роботи вражає, і це не заважає насолоджуватися змістом. Рекомендую цю книгу всім, хто цікавиться історією та хоче дізнатися більше про справжні події, які формували нашу країну.
