The basis of this collection is the political speeches of Demosthenes, in particular those directed against Philip of Macedon. Among them, in turn, a unique standard of the energetic and expressive Demosthenian style is the cycle of three classic “Olynthian Speeches” delivered on the occasion of the campaign of the Macedonian army against the Greek city of Olynthus. The collection also includes other speeches of Demosthenes, devoted not only to the foreign, but also to the internal policy of Athens, social and ethical issues.
