Thomas Chatterton (1956) is a historical drama by Hans Hennie Jann. Yann reconstructs the life of the young English poet, “made from death” and who committed suicide in 1770, using numerous documents. Yann considered art a kind of universal religion, and Chatterton seemed to him the personification of the poet as such. The angel Aburiel tells Chatterton about the essence of poetry: he reveals to the young man the world of fiction and the world of the dead.
