Friedrich Gorenstein (1932–2002) - prose writer, playwright, screenwriter (Solaris, Slave of Love). Gorenstein’s prose was not published in Soviet Russia at all; he only gave his manuscripts to his “inner circle” to read; foreign publications appeared in the late seventies. Yu. Trifonov, A. Konchalovsky, A. Tarkovsky, B. Sarnov called his novels “Place”, “Psalm”, “Redemption” brilliant. He did not join any movement or direction, did not find a place for himself in any camp, and acquired the status of a classic during his lifetime. In 1980, the writer emigrated and died in 2002 in Berlin. This collection includes the story “Steps”, first published in the Metropol almanac, and three works from the emigrant period: “Chok-Chok”, “Fly at a Drop of Tea” and “ Street of Red Dawns,” which gave the title to the entire book. The author of the preface, Dmitry Bykov, called “The Street...” “the spiritual autobiography of the author and the most tearful and painful text, written with truly Platonic power.” Contains obscene language.

The text of the book was translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence program. For the most part, the translation of the text is of very high quality, but in some cases, due to the imperfection of the technology, there may be incorrect phrase translations in the text, as well as single words and expressions may not be translated.
