The book is dedicated to the earliest period (V-VI centuries) in the history of the Slavic tribes of Europe. The author introduces readers to basic information on the social system, culture and beliefs of the ancient Slavs. The author pays special attention to the relations between the Slavs and the Huns, and the Slavic invasion of the Eastern Roman Empire. A separate chapter tells about the northwestern lands of future Rus' and the Slavic tribes that inhabited them.
