Scythia is a country that stretched across all of Eastern Europe all the way to the distant lands of the ancient Ecumene. The Scythians belonged to the tribes of the Northern Iranian language group of the Indo-European family. They were related to the Sarmatians, Massagets and Saks. Some researchers consider them to be the descendants of the bearers of the Timber Frame culture of the Bronze Age, who moved from the Volga region to the west starting from the 14th century BC. Others believe that the main core of the Scythians came from Central Asia or Siberia and mixed with the population of the Northern Black Sea region.
