The book contains selected chapters of the first part of the classic work of the outstanding English historian Edward Gibbon, “The History of the Decline and Collapse of the Roman Empire.” They highlight the events of the growing crisis of Roman society in the 3rd century, which ended with the establishment of a dominant regime, the progressive decline of the Roman Empire, which later broke up into two parts, western and eastern, the first of which collapsed in the 5th century, and the second survived it for ten centuries. The publication of the text “The History of the Decline and Collapse of the Roman Empire” is accompanied by an album of illustrations dedicated to the history, culture and art of the Roman Empire of the 1st–5th centuries. The chapters are numbered in two ways - the Arabic numeral indicates the order of the chapters in this edition, the Roman numeral, in brackets, in the work of E. Gibbon (Ed.).

Альбом ілюстрацій, що супроводжує текст, додає візуального контексту та допомагає краще усвідомити культурні досягнення Риму.
