Автор, Томас Костейн, майстерно відтворює епоху правління Карла VII, і через призму життя Жака Кера, фінансового генія, відкриває перед нами таємниці королівського двору. Кожна сторінка наповнена несподіваними поворотами, які тримають у напрузі до самого кінця. Незважаючи на те, що текст перекладений за допомогою штучного інтелекту, більшість перекладу виконана на високому рівні, що дозволяє насолоджуватися стилем і мовою автора. Хоча іноді трапляються незначні недоліки в перекладі, це не зменшує загального враження від книги.
