Автор майстерно створює відчуття безвиході та тривоги, коли звичайне життя місцевих жителів раптово порушується серією жорстоких злочинів. Персонажі, зокрема детектив Мік Гудноу, викликають симпатію та співчуття, адже їхні переживання та боротьба з невідомим ворогом стають дуже близькими. Сюжет тримає в напрузі, а несподівані повороти подій додають динаміки та інтриги. Незважаючи на деякі недоліки в перекладі, які незначно впливають на загальне враження, книга залишає глибокий слід у пам'яті.
