Albert Speer (1906–1981) was Hitler's personal architect, his confidant, Reich Minister of Armaments and War Industry, and by the end of the war became the second most powerful man in Nazi Germany. Speer, the only one accused at the Nuremberg trials, admitted his guilt for the crimes of the Reich. He was sentenced to twenty years in prison. All these years, Speer wrote down his memories in microscopic handwriting on toilet paper, tobacco wrappers, calendar sheets, and sympathetic guards smuggled them to freedom. Thus, from 25,000 scattered sheets, two books were made - “Memoirs” (published in “Zakharov” in 2010) and “Spandau: a secret diary” (published for the first time).
The text of the book was translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence program. For the most part, the translation of the text is of very high quality, but in some cases, due to the imperfection of the technology, there may be incorrect phrase translations in the text, as well as single words and expressions may not be translated.
