In the book of memoirs of the last head of foreign intelligence of the KGB of the USSR L.V. Shebarshin recreated the events preceding the collapse of the Soviet Union, as well as those few days of the “August putsch” of 1991, which became a turning point in the fate of the great country. Is it because his sharp analytical mind, knowledge and experience were not needed by the reconstructed Russia... The book includes memoirs and interviews with the lieutenant general.

Книга "Останній бій КДБ" є надзвичайно цінним джерелом інформації для всіх, хто цікавиться історією Радянського Союзу та його розвідки. Спогади Л.В. Шебаршина, останнього начальника зовнішньої розвідки КДБ, відкривають завісу над таємницями, які оточували цю організацію в період, коли країна переживала один із найскладніших етапів свого існування. Автор детально описує події, що передували розвалу СРСР, та серпневий путч 1991 року, надаючи читачеві унікальну можливість заглянути в закулісся політичних і розвідувальних ігор того часу. Особливо вражає аналітичний підхід Шебаршина до теми вербування та роботи з агентурою, що дозволяє зрозуміти, як складні політичні обставини впливали на діяльність розвідки. Його чесність і порядність, визнані навіть ворогами, додають глибини його спогадам. Хоча деякі моменти перекладу можуть бути не зовсім коректними, це не зменшує цінності самої книги. Вона стане справжнім відкриттям для тих, хто хоче зрозуміти, як функціонувала розвідка в умовах кризи влади та суспільства. Рекомендую цю книгу всім, хто цікавиться історією, політикою та розвідкою!
