In the Orthodox Church, rich in its ascetics. there is a whole host of fools for Christ's sake. The word “foolishness” can be translated into modern Russian as stupidity, madness. Having replaced the mask of external decency with imaginary madness and bad manners, the holy fools for the sake of Christ denounced the indifference to the pen or the pharisaism of their contemporary society. Deeply humble, they did not seek vain human glory. They did not perform false miracles, healing human ailments, they did this out of compassion for the sick, seeing the future, and sought to bring sinners to the consciousness of their sinfulness before God. For the first time, the biographies of the blessed mothers - from St. Xenia of Petersburg to Lyubushka Susaninskaya - have been collected together to reveal to the reader one of the pages of female holiness. Through our turbulent century - from the free-thinking society of old Russia, through the hardships of the revolution, the grief of wars, the difficulties of Soviet apostasy to the Russia of our days, reborn in faith - the blessed mothers pass, bringing love and consolation, preaching with their lives the mercy of God for His people.
