Jorge Luis Borges is one of the most popular writers of the 20th century, who largely determined the shape of modern literature. His penchant for all kinds of anthologies, encyclopedias and bestiaries is known. “This is a mysterious love for everything that exists without us,” he wrote in the poem “When Buying an Encyclopedia.” In 1950, Borges, in collaboration with Margarita Guerrero, published a “Textbook of Fantastic Zoology”, which, after repeated additions, found its final incarnation under the title “The Book of Fictitious Creatures”. The reader will find here many strange, wonderful creatures that came from the pages of ancient books and were born in the imagination of poets and philosophers, including Borges himself. At the same time, the book is built in the author’s favorite style, when the boundary between poetry and prose, fiction and reality becomes thinner and disappears, leaving the reader face to face with genuine literature. This edition includes the most complete version of “The Book of Fictional Creatures” prepared by Borges in English in 1974 and served as a source of inspiration for many writers, poets and artists. The publishing layout of the book is saved in a4.pdf format.
