"The Tragedy of a Perfect Art" is a miniature play in verse, based on the book "My Biography" by Sir Charles Spencer (Charlie) Chaplin. The play describes one of the difficult periods in the life and work of the actor, director and musician, namely the period of acute criticism. The work mentions famous films by Charlie Chaplin: “The Great Dictator”, “Monsieur Verdoux”, “Lightlights”. In the final act, in the production of the film “Through the Borders of the Screen” (“Lights of the Footlights”), the actor rushes through the screen, crossing its border, leaving behind an image and works in the memory of the audience.
