10 years of experience in covering criminal trials, 8 best-selling books have made the name Aphrodite Jones widely known in America. In her latest work, "Michael Jackson: The Conspiracy," she explores the role of the press in public opinion, using evidence presented in the 2004-2005 trial of Michael Jackson. More than 2,200 media outlets reported from Santa Maria, where the trial took place. Many were prejudiced from the very beginning, expecting a "guilty" verdict. When the dust settled, the media realized that the Santa Barbara prosecutor simply didn't have a case. As one of the jurors said, leaving the courtroom after the verdict: “Not understanding why they called us all. They didn’t have a single piece of evidence.” Jones herself was biased in her reporting during the trial. But she soon became ashamed of her position. And she realized that prosecutor Tom Sneddon had opened a real “witch hunt” against Jackson. And this hunt lasted since 1993. Jones became the only journalist to describe what actually happened in the courtroom. She proved in her book how the media uses all its power to change public opinion, regardless of the facts presented in court. The book earned its author the "Excellent Journalist" award from Brookins A.M.E. Church in Los Angeles and attracted the attention of publishers around the world, from Germany to New Zealand, from France to China. The book "Michael Jackson: The Conspiracy" is a compact version of the process itself. She describes in detail what happened in the courtroom, including actual testimony from witnesses. The book tells how Jackson's defense team successfully, day after day, destroyed the theories of the prosecution and its witnesses. About how, taking advantage of Michael's sympathy for a boy with cancer, his family reigned in Neverland and planned to pick his pockets. And about how the press did not want to report anything that testified to the defense of Michael Jackson and his defense team; how some reporters, even before the trial, gained access to Michael Jackson in the event that he was found guilty and sent to prison. (From the reviewer’s own recollections: immediately after the charges were brought and long (!) before the trial, the tabloid National Inquirer published an article by its regular author with curses against Jackson and the phrase “Michael Jackson, it would be better if you died!”) Is it surprising that Jones was refused virtually all publishers who have no interest in presenting stars (especially Michael Jackson) in a positive light? She had to publish the book at her own expense.
