The main work of Patriarch Photius - “Library” (“Μυροβίβλιον”) was written around 855 in the form of a letter to his brother, Patrician Tarasius. Contains abstract reviews and extracts (sometimes very lengthy) from 386 works by orators, grammarians, doctors, historians, geographers, Christian theologians, from cathedral decrees, and the lives of saints. Of particular value are extracts from historical works, since Photius had documents that were subsequently lost. The work consists of 279 chapters (many “sheets” or “codes” include descriptions of several books), but it has only been partially translated into Russian. The translation was published by the website azbyka.ru.
