Irina Tchaikovskaya’s book is dedicated to Russian writers of the 19th century; it recreates a world that is different from today’s and at the same time very close to the modern reader, full of drama, conflicts and the desire for harmony. The heroes of the book - Ivan Turgenev, Alexander Herzen, Nikolai Nekrasov, Vissarion Belinsky, Alexander Pushkin - are shown in their relationships with loving and beloved women; these relationships often come to the fore when the heroines present “their version” of events. The effect of double vision occurs when a male and female gaze is superimposed on the same event.
