“The world will never be the same again after you see it through the eyes of Forrest Gump,” read the slogan for the famous film by Robert Zemeckis starring Tom Hanks and Robin Wright, nominated for thirteen Oscars, received six and which became one of the highest-grossing films in cinema history. The same words are fully applicable to the novel by Winston Groom, which formed the basis of the film. “The life of an idiot is not a box of chocolates,” Forrest declares in the very first lines, and he knows what he’s saying (even if the meaning of this phrase has been changed to almost the opposite in the film). No matter what happened to Forrest and wherever he was taken (to Vietnam and China, to the concert stage and to the wrestling ring, to the White House and into outer space), throughout his life he carried his love for Jenny Curren and the ability to surprise others - after all, he is “an idiot, but not stupid”... The novel is published in a new translation.
