Aleksey Konakov’s book about Yevgeny Kharitonov is a meticulous reconstruction of the biography of one of the most radical innovators of Russian prose of the second half of the 20th century, an analysis of his texts and author’s strategies, made at the intersection of sociology and psychoanalysis, and, last but not least, an outline of the structure of late Soviet cultural life unfolding on the border between official and underground forms of existence of theater and literature.
