Many of us, after leaving the house, return to double-check that the iron is turned off, or do not step on the seams on the tiles while walking down the street, afraid that something terrible will happen... These and many other things are obsessive thoughts. If such ideas persist in your head, it is a sign of pure obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
Pure O is different from regular OCD in that it does not have an overtly physical component. This kind of OCD is more about obsessions (obsessive ideas) than about compulsions (repetitive actions and rituals). A person with “pure O” does not use rituals to rituals to avoid obsessive thoughts, but unwanted images and ideas remain in the head. And dealing with them can be just as difficult as with ordinary OCD.
The author of the book offers his own methods of dealing with “pure O” - using acceptance and responsibility therapy. Often, the psychological methods we resort to to combat OCD, on the contrary, make unwanted thoughts stronger. This is because we focus on our obsessions and constantly think about how to deal with them. This book counters that approach.
Chad Lejeune teaches you to stop dwelling on unwanted thoughts, accept them, and relax as much as possible. Step by step, the book teaches you how to do this through creative exercises and psychological practices.
