Here you will find traditional recipes for English, or rather British, cuisine. As a person who has lived in England for a long time, I know about them first-hand! Since these dishes are folk dishes, each of them has an ancient, sometimes centuries-old, history. Having become interested in studying this history, I noticed that most often it is associated with outstanding personalities of Great Britain - writers, poets, scientists and even kings. And the idea occurred to me that with the help of these recipes you can, as it were, touch the past. After all, when we prepare this or that dish, knowing how it originated, we seem to be transported to bygone times. And often this or that recipe is the best monument of its era. Not every one of us has the opportunity to study ancient manuscripts in the library, and a time machine has not yet been invented. But any person has the opportunity to cook this or that dish and imagine what life was like in past centuries. The connection between traditional recipes and history varies greatly. Sometimes this or that dish was the king's favorite dish; sometimes a famous writer mentions him in his work. And it often happens that a dish has a specific “small homeland”, be it a large city or a tiny village where some outstanding personality lived. My goal is to tell you about these people, their times and destinies, and to help you touch these lives with the help of original recipes that have survived to this day. The fates of the heroes of my articles are also very different. Among them are Vikings and Windsors; famous chefs and great politicians; brave explorers and talented singers. The entire history of Great Britain is captured here, from the Stone Age to modern times. Here you will also find stories about English national traditions and culture. I hope that you will feel as if you are traveling in a time machine, each time being transported many years into the past, and at the same time visiting picturesque places throughout the UK. This book mainly contains fairly simple recipes. However, their stories are so fascinating, I have no doubt that after reading them you will understand that Britain is not called Great Britain for nothing!
