Man is, according to God’s plan, a God-like being, and therefore his normal life is possible only in communication with God in order to achieve his true purpose and eternal bliss. The story of the Fall of Adam and Eve influenced the entire subsequent development of mankind. The fundamental significance of the Fall of our ancestors lay, first of all, in the fact that man transferred the center of his life and activity from God to himself. Man, created by God, consciously and freely decided, instead of God’s will, to make his will the beginning of his life, to make himself and his self the center of the existing world and the goal of his life. For the first man, as a result of the Fall, communication with God became not a joyful satisfaction of his internal needs, but an external debt, terrible and painful, burdened by the fear of being punished in the form of deprivation and suffering. The book was written by a team of authors of members of the Society of Orthodox Psychologists of St. Petersburg in memory of St. Feofan the Recluse, edited by the Chairman of the Society, Doctor of Psychology, Professor Larisa Filippovna Shekhovtsova. Recommended for publication by the Publishing Council of the Russian Orthodox Church.
