Historical and philological commentaries on the Acts of the Apostles introduce the reader to the achievements of modern science in the field of research into the first Christian historical work. Over the past seventy years there has been a significant advance in the study of the New Testament. There were many reasons for this: the intensive development of textual criticism led to the emergence of a modern critical text of the NT, the discovery of the Dead Sea manuscripts created a new direction in the study of the early period of Christianity, archaeological finds, primarily epigraphic, made significant changes in ideas about everyday life in the 1st century. according to A.D. New knowledge about the New Testament era has been accumulated in modern Western commentaries. There are no reference books of this kind in Russia - this is the gap that this book tries to fill.

Levinskaya I. A.The Acts of the Apostles. Chapters 9-28: A Historical and Philological Commentary. – St. Petersburg: Faculty of Philology and Arts of St. Petersburg State University, 2008. – 664 p., +16 p. col. ill.A Historical and Philological Commentary on the Acts of the Apostles aims to make known to the readers the results of the modem scholarly achievements in studying the first Christian historical book. The last 70 years were marked by substantial progress in the different fields related to New Testament studies. The progress in the study of textual transmission resulted in the publication of the new critical text of the New Testament. The discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls gave rise to a new tenor in New Testament studies. The uncovering of new inscriptions as well as other results of archaeological excavations changed our perception of the everyday life in the 1st century AD. The new data are accumulated in modem western commentaries. Such commentaries are not available in Russian. The present book tries, at least partly, to fill this lacuna.
