The book is devoted to the study of the system of viceroyal titles that developed in Russia during the period when the position of viceroy as a local representative of the power of the Grand Duke was abolished and viceroyship acquired a fundamentally new meaning. The work shows the connection between the system of viceroyal titles and other similar systems that regulated the social and official position of representatives of the highest Russian society (with ranks, positions, local status, etc.). The author analyzes the rules for the functioning of the title-viceral system during periods of dominance of localism and in the era the formation of service principles of the absolutist state.
