The book publishes the last large-scale work of the remarkable philologist Yu. K. Shcheglov (1937–2009) - a literary and historical-cultural commentary on one of the iconic works of the 1960s - “The Overstocked Barrel” (1968) by V. P. Aksenov . A complex system of hints and omissions, cross-cutting references to modern literature, irony over the Soviet language and way of life - all that was immediately clear to the first readers of Bochkotara, certainly requires deciphering and explanation for the current reader. At the same time, Shcheglov’s commentary is not only the masterly work of an erudite philologist, but also the apt observations of a memorable contemporary of the era and interlocutor Aksenov, who managed to highly appreciate the work being prepared for publication.
