Childhood in European autobiographies: from Antiquity to Modern times. Anthology

(for all gadgets)
(including for Apple and Android)
The content of the anthology consists of translations of autobiographical texts, provided with comments about their authors. Some of these authors are well known to readers (Aurelius Augustine, Michel Montaigne, Jean-Jacques Rousseau), but readers will meet most of them for the first time. The book also includes an introduction analyzing the “autobiographical turn” in the history of childhood, introductory articles to each of the parts examining the features of stories about childhood in different eras, and a brief conclusion that notes the emergence of fundamentally new ideas about childhood in the early 19th century. The publication is addressed primarily to students and teachers of the humanities (historians, anthropologists, psychologists, teachers, philologists, cultural experts) and is intended for use in teaching relevant disciplines. It is also intended for an audience of specialists in the history of childhood, the history of pedagogy, and the history of everyday life. However, the fascinating, sometimes exciting, stories included in the book will undoubtedly also attract the interest of a wide range of readers.
