"Memoirs" by A. N. Benois teaches us love for our country, for our city, for our family and its traditions. A. N. Benois is proud of his belonging to St. Petersburg and its culture. The pan-European connections of the Benois family have now acquired special attractiveness, just as all the features of the European education of the Russian intelligentsia of the 19th and 20th centuries have become attractive. "Memoirs" by A. N. Benois is a good book. If we begin to perceive it as a whole, then we will clearly feel that Benoit treats the life around him and the work of his contemporaries with sympathy, as if he were a family member: regardless of whether he agreed with them or not. And this constitutes a moral atmosphere, which is so needed by the modern environment of the “creative intelligentsia”, often torn apart by enmity and mutual hostility.
