Jorge Luis Borges is one of the most famous writers of the 20th century, who largely determined the shape of modern literature. Borges's texts, be they fiction, poetry or reflections, are a kind of intellectual game - they are full of secrets and fantastic images, the origins of which must be sought in the literatures and cultures of the past. The collection "A General History of Infamy", included in this volume, is a collection stories about people for whom moral failure, crime and shame opened the way to glory. Describing monstrous atrocities that have become legend, Borges remains true to his penchant for literary hoaxes. According to him, in the book “there is only an appearance, a shell of images; maybe that’s why readers like the book.” The book also includes the collection “The History of Eternity,” in which the author combined reflections on the cyclical nature of time, reviews of non-existent books, a review of various translations of the Arabian Nights fairy tales, a treatise on the poetry of skalds and much more.
