The work of the famous French lawyer, publicist and leading ideologist of tyranny fighting Francois Hautman "Francogallia" is one of the brightest monuments of political thought of the 16th century. The treatise was first published immediately after the Night of St. Bartholomew, i.e. in 1573, and its content was largely determined by the religious and political confrontation during the era of civil wars in France in the 16th century. The wide popularity of "Francogallia" in Europe was associated with the presentation of the doctrine of the rights of the people, sovereignty and the legitimation of political resistance to monarchical power. The author of the essay also outlined his own concept of ethnogenesis and history of France. The translation was carried out from the latest, most complete edition of this work. The publication is equipped with a detailed article devoted to the history of the ideological and political struggle in the era of the Huguenot wars, extensive comments and indexes. For historians, lawyers, political scientists, cultural scientists, as well as a wide range of readers interested in the history of the Middle Ages and early modern times, the Huguenot wars in France and European social thought.
