The focus of this study is the life and work of the outstanding English thinker, reformer, and translator of the Bible into English, William Tyndel (1494-1536). Along with biblical translations, T.G. Chugunova examines the extensive heritage of the theologian, his reformist and polymetrical works, unknown to the domestic reader. Particular attention is paid to the analysis and interpretation of the teachings of the English thinker, whose ideological heritage reflected the characteristic features of the European humanistic and reform movement. According to the author, the images of Tindel existing in historiography are quite contradictory (Tindel the Lutheran, Tindel the humanist, Tindel the Wycliffite), therefore in this study an attempt is made to eliminate extremes in the approach to this issue and determine the degree of dependence of the religious and political doctrines of the English theologian on the constructions European reformers and humanists. The book examines the attitude of the English theologian to the major political events and socio-economic phenomena of the era. Using the example of an analysis of the life and work of Tindel, an important stage in the history of England in the 16th century is illuminated. The pages of the book also present a whole galaxy of reformers - the theologian's contemporaries. Their ideas, creative quests and aspirations constitute the unique spiritual environment in which W. Tindel lived, struggled and created his works. The book is addressed to historians, philologists, political scientists, cultural scientists, as well as a wide range of readers interested in the phenomenon of the Reformation and the spiritual processes that took place in England in the early modern period.
