Larry Niven is one of the top ten science fiction writers, on a par with Isaac Asimov and Arthur C. Clarke. Having made his debut in 1964 with the story “The Coldest Place,” over half a century he has written dozens of successful works that skillfully combine scientific discoveries and futurological predictions with exciting adventures. Many of these works formed the epic cycle “Known Space”. It describes the history of the future: having overcome the earth's gravity, humanity wages a constant struggle for survival and development - exploring nearby planets and asteroids, encountering hostile aliens, sending transports with colonists to inhospitable stars. For his achievements in the genre of science fiction, Larry Niven was awarded the title of "Grand -master". He was awarded the Hugo Award five times and the Nebula Award twice. In addition, he is the recipient of the Locus Award, the Edward E. Smith Memorial Award, the World Fantasy Award, the Robert E. Heinlein Award, and others. Almost all of the works included in the collection are published either in new or revised and expanded translations.
