After the death of Emperor Alexander II, a process of real disengagement began in the Romanov family. The entire entourage of Alexander III knew who and why organized the murder of the Tsar-Liberator, but did not act until A. A. Polovtsov revised the “Institution on the Imperial Family.” According to the new law, the descendants of grand-ducal families lost the status of “imperial highnesses”, moving into the category of “princes of imperial blood”, and could not lay claim to the throne. The eminent relatives did not want to put up with the deprivation of their previous privileges. As a result, two attempts on the life of Alexander III - on March 1, 1887 and October 17, 1888 - were generously financed, professionally organized and were foiled only due to random circumstances. The book examines previously unknown investigative materials and correspondence, details of the organization of the assassination attempts, undoubtedly indicating their custom nature. The author shows particular interest in the terrorist attack involving V.I. Lenin's elder brother Alexander Ulyanov - as an event that had serious consequences in a historical perspective.
