Fet's legacy is in fact much more diverse than the school curriculum allows us to consider. We all know that Fet was an inspired singer of nature (and not only Russian, but also European) and a wise poet-philosopher, however, in addition to this, he was the author of the most subtle love lyrics and very unusual ballads (both realistic and mystical), a good-natured apologist for the quiet, idyllic life in a Russian landowner’s estate and an exceptional connoisseur of ancient poetry, who knew how to brilliantly stylize his own works to match it. And all these numerous facets of Fet’s remarkable talent are equally reflected in the composition of this book.
