The historical and chronographic work of St. Demetrius of Rostov, “The Cell Chronicler,” written by him in the last years of his life, enjoyed great popularity in the 18th and 19th centuries. In its content, the genre of the chronograph - the oldest historical chronicle - is uniquely combined with theological reasoning, which determines the special semantic capacity of the text. Saint Ignatius Brianchaninov and Saint Ambrose of Optina pointed out the special significance of the “Chronicle” “for guidance in life itself, in order to know and be able to know how to act in a purely Christian manner, according to Orthodox decrees.” The book is accompanied by an introductory article telling about the history of the creation of the “Chronicle”. The publication is intended for a wide range of readers. Published by: Cell Chronicler of St. Demetrius of Rostov. M.: Pilgrim, 2000. (Theological creativity of Russian saints).
